FOCUS ON THE FUTURE
I have a healthy balance of idealism and pragmatism, vision and attention to detail. Takoma Park has spent too much time recently on narrowly focused projects and issues. We need to devote our attention intelligently to the big-picture questions that will determine our future in the long term.
TOP WARD 3 ISSUES
1. Development at Takoma Junction
Fine-tuned, not fast-tracked; responsive to neighborhood input. (Download Roger's Position Statement)
2. Street Restoration
WSSC must clean up its mess - we need impeccable repairs, done without delay.
3. Passable Sidewalks
Walkability supports public safety, sustainability, and the local economy.
4. Spring Park
Erosion, crumbling trails, decaying sculpture, and waterlogged field call for a makeover.
5. New Play Space in Pinecrest
This diverse neighborhood deserves a safe place to build community.
6. Public safety
More pedestrian and bike patrols will help strengthen a collaborative approach.
7. Underused and Vacant Properties
Address these as opportunities to create a sustainable future.
TOP CITY ISSUES
1. Create a Program Budget
Stop wasting money - set objectives and evaluate progress annually.
2. Climate change
Move on from demonstration projects – catalyze City-wide sustainability.
3. Underfunded County reimbursement
Target this legally as unconstitutional double taxation.
4. Quality of Service
Going to the Council should never be a step needed to get responsive service.
5. Income Diversity
Keep Takoma Park affordable for all people.
I’m a DC native who has lived in Takoma Park for eleven years on Allegheny Avenue. I am married with two children: we enjoy our street and love our neighbors. We’ve moved just once, and it was directly across the street.
WE MUST DO MORE
We live on a tree-shaded lot and would love the opportunity to participate in a solar-energy cooperative. I see climate change as the biggest issue of our time and want our city to lead the nation in effective municipal innovation.
